No Studio, No Problem: Telling a Leadership Story with a Custom Video Avatar

Case Study

Client

Senior Lecturer | Higher Education | Leadership Programme Participant

Project Duration

5 days | End-to-end production

Main challenge

Our client, Dr Ifeoma Dan-Ogosi, a senior lecturer, scholar, and vocal advocate for inclusive education, was participating in the Elevate leadership development programme. As part of her final presentation, she was invited to share a deeply personal and professional reflection.

Dr Ifeoma Dan-Ogosi shared her journey in the Elevate programme. Her growth pathway on Elevate led to her articulating and developing a multicultural classroom model, which she has been growing for nine years.

Ifeoma needed a high-quality video that would allow her to deliver her narrative authentically — not only at the celebration event, but also across digital platforms and roadshows to promote her inclusive teaching model. The challenge? With a limited time, a tight schedule, and a tight budget, which meant filming in person was not an option.

The winning formula

We created a custom avatar-led video, transforming a static photo into a dynamic, speaking digital version of the client — complete with natural gestures, lip-syncing, and an emotionally attuned voiceover.

Achievements

Rapid Production — Delivered a professional, event-ready video within five days.

Minimal Source Material — The client provided a few photos, one of which we used to create the avatar.

Authentic Voice — We used her actual voice, carefully edited to remove ambient sound (including chirping birds) while preserving tone and clarity. We also explored AI-generated alternatives tailored to her cadence and style.

Avatar Animation — Built from a single still image, enhanced with subtle, expressive motion to bring warmth and presence to the delivery.

Script Sync & Emotional Delivery — We timed visual cues, gestures, and pauses to mirror the pacing of her script and preserve its emotional rhythm.

Multi-Purpose Format — The final video worked seamlessly across live events, digital roadshows, and institutional platforms.

Takeaways

The final video opened the client’s Elevate presentation and was later used across digital roadshows, enabling her to lead with presence and clarity — without needing to appear on camera. It has also become a core part of her professional portfolio, an internal conversation starter with new students.

“It is incredible what Vivanti colleagues could produce with my still image. This project helped me present my leadership story with confidence and clarity, despite juggling multiple responsibilities and travelling for conferences at the time. It was a big relief! It was powerful to see my story come to life this way ... and to begin to think of unimaginable things I could do with AI in my classroom”

Avatars in Higher Education: Meaningful Tool or Digital Distraction?

When we say avatars, we don’t mean cartoon characters or filters — we mean lifelike digital representations of real people, often created from a still image, that can speak and move naturally. In education, they offer a way to present, guide, and connect when filming or being there in person simply isn’t possible.
